I really enjoyed this game and am, in fact, going through another play through. The script is well written, the characters heartfelt, the social challenge of keeping a town together after tragedy...hard but worth the effort. I found myself wary at first

I really had to push myself to finish this game. I felt rushed and lost and wasn't clear on what to do most of the time. The visuals are nice, and I was able to take decent screenshots and get all the achievements, but I just can't recommend this.

An ambitious systemic narrative game that has some impressive ideas but doesn't hold up through its entire running time. The game tells the story of a small, isolated community that is thrown into chaos by the death of a teen girl. You start out playi

This game absolutely floored me ... in the quietest, most human way. It made me think about the people I’ve lost, and I actually ended up texting my mum just to say I love her. I finished it teary-eyed but weirdly grateful. It’s gentle, sad, and a bi

Closer the Distance is a quietly powerful narrative-focused life simulation developed by Osmotic Studios and published by Skybound Games, and it immediately sets itself apart by centering not on heroics or survival, but on grief, memory, and the fragile b

This one is tricky to recommend. On the one hand it has such a unique concept. Take the life sim aspects of the sims and use it in a narrative about grief and you have the basis for a completely original experience (which it is). However the experience ca

This game is messy. I fully agree with some ratings that say it is easy to get overwhelmed, because I did for sure. But at the same time, I think it is by design. The characters are overwhelmed. Grief is messy. Life is messy. This game is absolutely beaut

I really wanted to like this game since it is right up my alley in terms of theme and genre. Unfortunately, the performance issues in the later part of the game and the shallow plot made it very difficult to sustain interest. It's very disappointing, beca

Really fucking sad. A little too gamey, cheesing the life of depressed people to force them to follow their dreams can be way funnier than the game intends. But all narrative beats hit sharply. 3/5

Reviewing (mostly) every game (or DLC) in my library, part 488: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆☆☆☆ (6/10) Man. Isn't it embarrassing when you're so hyped for a game that doesn't deliver? Yeah. I hate to give Closer the Distance a ne

i haven't finished this game yet. but it's *so* moving i've been on the verge of tears 3 times in 4 hours it just feels so overwhelming, being hit with all the grief the characters go through, and how they're interacting isn't always for the best, but
