Yes, slashing blocks is more fun than sliding the trombone.
But you actually get to create sounds/tones, and contribute to the music in this game!
That was always the biggest flaw of Beatsaber for me.

Holy HELL this is a good conversion of Trombone Champ to VR, it has full support for custom songs if you wanna play stuff like "Thick Of It" whilst a crowd boos at you for sucking
