Promotion or not these races are a whole lot of fun and their abilities spice things up and are always welcome when making your own races. The new ship styles are really cool too. As I am not much for campaign it's more worth the money than the Snathi DLC

If you like Star Control: Origins this will probably be up your alley. Personally I'd rather they brought back actual GC aliens rather than doing a blatant cross-promotion DLC. So for me it isn't worth the price. YMMV.
